The New Blackberry “Passport” Smartphone

Blackberry is battling a fight to stay important in the cell phone space, and it has two new items in the pipeline that it trusts will switch its fortunes. While the organization has flaunted both the new Classic and the Passport, its the last that has earned the most consideration.

As of not long ago, we didn't know much about the Passport other than the way that it offered a wide QWERTY console and a curious 4.5" 1440×1440 showcase. For the Blackberry fans out there that stick on to any new discharge from the Canadian organization, Crackberry has posted a client composed, prerelease audit of the Passport.

The screen is one of such tastefulness, that it even made the most diehard iphone client grin. It's got one of the most keen screens out there and the UI that felt confined on the Q10 now is unleashed in a manner that renders you pitifully infatuated…

The screen is everything on the Blackberry Passport. They at long last evaluated it. It's the center here furthermore assumes control over a lot of the obligations of the console. At an incredible 1440×1440 pixels, the screen is charmingly brilliant and gives everything more space.

Processors specs are occupied as of right now, however other equipment gimmicks were uncovered:

This model has 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of ready for, however I did include a 64 GB SD card myself. At long last, there is an effectively open nano SIM opening to consider simple SIM exchanging without the battery meddling. With it having an inner battery which keeps going forever, Blackberry put the SD card space and SIM opening on the highest point of the telephone within a removable board.

About that new console:

So how does this work? It meets expectations in a manner never saw previously. The images, characters, numbers and everything else is on screen and naturally changes relying upon where you are. On the off chance that you are on the form boards contact show, you will get the numeric catches on the screen and if on the body divide, the images and character might be conjured.

This was obviously a model gadget and not every gimmick was working appropriately. It was additionally running a more established form of Blackberry's leader working framework (10.3.0.428), so execution and programming peculiarities ought to be further fleshed out when it is formally discharged.

Is the Passport enough to get people out of their Apple iphones and Samsung Galaxies? Most likely not. Anyway its at any rate decent to see Blackberry looking to separate itself in the business sector with the Passport.

Facebook Launches Free Internet App in Africa via Internet.org

facebbok free internet app

Facebook has just revealed its first mobile app that will help Africans get online free via its initiative internet.org which was launched last year to help developing countries have access to cheap internet.
The initiative is first releasing its first app in Zambia, the app is currently android base, it gives free access to internet base web services totally free.
The app will allow users have access to cool internet web services like:

  • Wikipedia
  • Google search
  • Facebook
  • AccuWeather
  • Go Zambia Jobs
  • Kokoliko
  • MAMA (Mobile Alliance for Maternal Action)
  • Messenger
  • WRAPP (Women’s Rights App) and
  • Zambia uReport
Facebook’s boss said in his post that “Right now, only 15% of people in Zambia have access to the internet. Soon, everyone will be able to use the internet for free to find jobs, get help with reproductive health and other aspects of health, and use tools like Facebook to stay connected with the people they love.”
But currently the free internet access will be for only Airtel Africa customers in Zambia and can also be access via facebook app.
Nigerians will be waiting patiently for this awesome service.
I think Globacom will be the best company to partner with Facebook on this initiative in Nigeria, what do you guys think?

How to Allow Only Specific Android Apps to Use Internet Data

Android data managerAndroid devices are well known to consume much internet data compared to other devices, the problem majorly is when your device consumes data and you cant really identify which application is consuming much data, because there are a lot of background applications that access your internet.

Unauthorized access to your internet data plan by background apps can be frustrating and it has multiple effects on your device, first it slows down your device as it gets online, secondly it drains your battery juice and thirdly which is the major concern here is it sucks your internet data.
Some android users when on some limited data plans will only want some specific apps to work while others still offline but this is almost impossible as even though you don’t launch some apps it still finds its way online and its so annoying, like some just want to manage their limited data on Whatsapp and BBM only.
To achieve all this
  1. You should disable/restrict  background data: this is one major settings which android developers have come up with to help users manage their data. Goto Settings>Data usage click the option key and tick resists background data also there is an option below that where you can turn off background data for individual applications (this is for android 4 and above).
  2. Secondly there are a lot of good third party utility apps that works magic in this aspect to control the access various apps have to the Internet.
  • LostNet Firewall: This is a great app that helps you manage apps and how they get online. It has options to block an app totally or to allow it have access to the internet only when on WIFI, you can also set geolocation accessibility and doesn’t require root access.LostNet NoRoot Firewall
  • Android Firewall: This is a folk of the popular application Droidwall that uses iptables to limit data usage and add security to Android but was discontinued, this works great too but root access is required.Android Firewall
  • AFWall+ (Android Firewall +): AFWall is another app in that category which tried to replace the discontinued Droidwall . Although no much success story but still does what it suppose to do but not this also requires root access.AFWall+ (Android Firewall +)
With the above I believe android users will find it unseful in controlling the usage of their internet data plans. If you know any good app that does same please comment below so I can add it to the list for others to benefit.

Etisalat’s time base data plan is totally unlimited and it goes for 15 naira for every 5 minutes, so for 1 hour you will spend just 180 Naira on an unlimited data cap.
The good thing about this plan is that Etisalat has one of the best internet speed, so you can imagine how many data you will have pulled in an hour, I have read on a site where people claim to have downloaded up to 10GB file in 2 hours that just going to cost 360 Naira.
So if you have a huge file to download no need to start panicking on how much you will spend, Etisalat Unlimited plan will always be there for you.

NOTE:
  1. After subscribing, your time starts immediately your phone’s data is on or your modem is connected, even if you don’t browse, so far your mobile is showing E/3G/H+ or your datacard is connected.
  2. You should know you will be charged every 5 minutes, so if you have 1000 Naira on your SIM and you keep browsing, 15 naira will always be deducted every 5 minutes except you unsubscribe by dialing *229*0#

How to Pay For DSTV Subscriptions and Airtel Postpaid Bills on Quickteller

I have written about this in two separate posts before -- one was for DSTV subscription and the other was for Airtel Postpaid bills.

Unfortunately, things have changed since then. Not just that I have stopped paying for DSTV subscription and now watch CCTV (God bless China. Too bad I'm not learning Chinese). Quickteller has completely changed their site. It now looks like a Windows 8 start screen. And I like it.

So I have to make a new relevant post, but this time I won't want to bore my readers with two separate posts with lots of repetitions. I will explain both in one straightforward post.

So let's head to the new cool Quickteller site: www.quickteller.com

Sign up, if you haven't registered on Quickteller before. And if you have, like me, then log in.

It shows me the online payments I have made on the site before.

Lemme expand the DSTV one, so you don't think I was always subscribing to the Family Bouquet.

But for you, you'll probably see nothing under "My Services". You'll be starting from scratch.

And here's how.
At the upper right side of the Quickteller site, you'll see a search box. That's what you'll use. That box will take you to any service you want to make payment for.

Let's start with DSTV subscription.
Type DSTV in the search box.

Ignore the suggestions and click search.

You'll get a result page.

1 item found: DSTV Subscription. And that's just what you need.
Click on the "DSTV Subscription" and Select the Bouquet you wanna pay for. (Compact Bouquet is identified as MINI, others still retain their regular names. Family is Family and Premium is Premium).

Click on Continue to go to the next step.
You'll be required to enter your Smart Card number, email and phone number.
Click on Continue again.

It pre-filled my email and phone number because I have provided them during registration. I just have to enter my DSTV smart card number. And click on Continue.

You'll be taken to the payment confirmation page.

Click on Pay.
You'll be taken to the payment page where you'll provide your ATM card details.

Gotcha! You were expecting to see my ATM card details, ehn?
Enter your details and pay.

You will get a payment successful SMS and email. Call DSTV on 2703232 to inform them about your payment. It's not necessary, but I like the peace of mind it gives.

Now to Airtel Postpaid line payment.
Type Airtel in the search box.

6 items found. Well, we only need the first item: Airtel Bill Payment (Postpaid)

Click on it.

Fill in the phone number you want to pay for, email and the amount you want to credit the phone with. I used to pay the exact bill figure I owe, but now I pay more than that so I don't get to pay every month, spending time and extra transaction charge.

Click on continue when done.

The system will pull out your name as it is on Airtel database. See how it doubled mine.

Click on Pay.

Enter your ATM details and pay.
You'll get SMS notification and email.

Welcome to the online world of convenience!
